On April 28th, I released 'State We're In'. A nice, short little pop tune, that speaks of the disquiet. here are ideological forces at play which do not show their face; they work through others. This song is about those forces.
The May 2025 new release 'State We're In', echos 70's political counter-culture heroes Frank Zappa and Parliament-Funkadelic with a societal commentary with a pop sensibility.
I hope you enjoy the track and perhaps some of the messaging will resonate with you.
This 2025 Australian Federal Election has been lacking in vigour and vision. We have a weakened conservative side of politics, including the leading conservative party in lock-step on many issues with the current left-wing Government. The very narrow dialog has inadvertently supported the suppression of discussion concerning free speech and important discussions concerning the 'rights' of all Australians.
For this election, the song 'State We're In' has concentrated on three primary themes: (i) the media; (ii) the minimal distinction between the two major political parties; and (iii) cancel culture.
Verse 1 is about the mainstream media (MSM) and how vital news is omitted and ‘talking points’ guide messaging across MSM.
Verse 2 is about the lack of choice in the current 2025 Australian Federal election and how we don’t have a traditional voice to defend freedoms Australians have taken for granted / thought they had.
Verse 3 is about cancel culture and self censorship - something I have seen first hand in the corporate world.
